For Dave “Teddy” Viaña, Mobile Legends: Bang Bang was never just a game—it became a refuge when life at home felt uncertain.

As Team Liquid PH continues its dominant run in MPL Philippines Season 17, the 20-year-old rookie is quietly shaping one of the most compelling breakout stories of the season.

Years ago, Teddy faced the possibility of leaving home when his parents decided to separate. In that difficult stretch, he found direction in Mobile Legends, turning to the game as a constant while everything else felt unstable. 

Climbing into the Top 100 global rankings, Teddy earned a spot with amateur squad Gamer Pact—a crucial step that opened doors to the professional scene.

Now, in a full-circle moment, his family was present at Victoria Sports Tower as he helped Team Liquid PH secure a statement victory over defending world champion Aurora.

But Teddy isn’t content with simply being part of the story. He made it clear that he intends to prove he belongs and not as a temporary fix, but as a core piece of the roster.

Originally, Team Liquid PH planned to bring in Indonesian import Sultan “Aeronnshikii” Muhammad for the season. However, eligibility issues forced a late adjustment, with Aeronnshikii eventually moving to Malaysia’s AC Esports. 

The team briefly fielded Kim “Daiki” Sebanes before turning to Teddy, a decision that has since paid off.

Since his inclusion, Team Liquid PH has remained flawless, posting a 9-0 record and becoming the first squad to clinch a playoff berth.

Teddy’s individual numbers reflect his impact. He currently leads Week 5’s Leaderboard in KDA with an impressive 13.33, far ahead of ONIC PH’s Super SuperFrince at 7.63. He also ranks third in Average Gold Per Minute at 761, just behind teammate KarlTzy, who tops the list at 773.

The numbers highlight more than just efficiency—they underline a player determined to silence doubts. Despite early perceptions that the team was merely “safe” for a Top 8 finish, Teddy has embraced the pressure of proving otherwise.

With the playoffs set at the San Juan Arena from May 27 to 31, Team Liquid PH has already secured its place, but the work isn’t over.

The unbeaten squad faces another test in Week 6, taking on Team Falcons on May 2 and AP Bren on May 3—matches that will further gauge whether their dominance can hold against the league’s toughest challengers.
