Team Liquid Philippines has wasted no time establishing itself as a powerhouse in MPL PH Season 17, sweeping through the first two weeks of the regular season with a flawless 4-0 record.
For a team that entered the season surrounded by questions, the early results have quickly shifted the conversation from doubt to dominance.
At the center of this transformation is Singaporean head coach Ong Wei Sheng, better known as Aeon. Taking over one of the most scrutinized rosters in the league.
The Philippines has long been regarded as the gold standard in Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, having held the title of the world’s strongest region for six consecutive years.
Behind that dominance is not just raw talent, but a deep pool of strategic minds—coaches whose influence has extended far beyond the region, with many being recruited internationally.
For Aeon, that reputation was both a challenge and an opportunity.
“As expected, I think they are all very strong. Preparing against them is not easy, even if we prepared for so long. Sometimes, in a series, we can think 45 hours of simulation, and we still are not prepared for what happened in Game 1, for example,” he said.

Adjusting to that level of competition required more than preparation—it demanded trust in his players. And with a lineup packed with championship experience, execution became just as important as strategy.
“Obviously, it’s tough. But I think we also have to credit the players. As much as the draft is important, execution is also important, so props to the team,” Aeon added.
Following an offseason filled with major roster changes, Team Liquid PH faced skepticism from fans and analysts alike.
The departure of key figures from their previous campaign left many questioning whether the new lineup could live up to the organization’s high standards.
But inside the team, the pressure felt different.
“Pressure, not really because of what people are saying. I don’t really care what people are saying, to be honest. But pressure, as in, you know that you should be winning with these players,” Aeon explained.
That mindset has become the foundation of their early run—not chasing validation, but meeting internal expectations.
With momentum firmly on their side, Team Liquid PH now turns its attention to Week 3, where they will face Smart Omega on April 10 before taking on TNC Pro Team on April 11.
