ZUS Coffee’s Anna DeBeer unsure of PVL return after winning PVL Best Import honor

The ZUS Coffee Thunderbelles saw their breakthrough Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Finals run end in heartbreak on Sunday, November 30, as they fell to the Petro Gazz Angels, 25-15, 26-28, 23-25, 20-25, at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in the Reinforced Conference championship match.

A key figure in ZUS Coffee’s historic campaign was star import Anna DeBeer, whose dominant season earned her the Best Foreign Player (Best Import) award. But in the title duel, her 18-point effort—tied for her second-lowest output of the season—wasn’t enough to lift the Thunderbelles past the more composed Angels.

“Obviously, we didn’t really play our best. It’s definitely tough when those kinds of games happen in the finals, but I’m really proud of what we have accomplished to get to this point,” DeBeer admitted during the postmatch press conference.

“I have to not dwell too much on this game and look at how far ZUS has come. I told the girls before leaving that this has been the most unreal experience. I had no clue it was going to be this amazing,” she added.

Despite the loss, the former University of Louisville standout received a heartfelt tribute from both teammates and fans. Many supporters arrived in “Fear DeBeer” shirts, celebrating her impact before she accepted her Best Import trophy.

“It was really cool. I didn’t even know this was a thing. New fans, new country, new everything. I’m just really thankful. They made this so enjoyable and made me want to work harder for them,” DeBeer said.

Her standout performance throughout the conference has made her one of the most coveted imports moving forward. Yet while teams are expected to express interest, DeBeer remains noncommittal about a PVL return—though she made clear her affection for the league and its fans.

“Everyone’s been asking me. I’m not sure. It just depends on how everything works out. But I would love to be back,” she concluded.
