With the playoff race entering its most unforgiving phase, two blockbuster matches in the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Reinforced Conference showcased exactly what’s required when survival is on the line: stars rising, under-dogs battling, and momentum shifting in a heartbeat.

On Tuesday night at the Filoil EcoOil Centre, the Chery Tiggo EV Crossovers faced the ultimate pressure test against the surging Capital1 Solar Spikers, and the one who answered was Cuban import Yunieska Batista.

With the Crossovers sporting a precarious 1-4 record, Batista delivered a conference-best 41 points, including eight in the decisive fifth set, to lead her team to a thrilling 27-25, 23-25, 25-12, 22-25, 15-13 victory.

Her performance didn’t just keep Chery Tiggo alive — it ignited hope when most had counted them out.

As Batista carried the offense, her teammates rose around her. Jennifer Nierva anchored the defense with 24 excellent digs and 17 excellent receptions in a head-to-head against rookie standout Bella Belen from Capital1, who posted 22 points and nine digs.

Capital1, riding a hot streak of its own, engineered a fight-back under Ukrainian import Oleksandra Bytsenko — 34 points and nine excellent receptions — only to come up short. The match highlighted the razor-thin gap between life and elimination in this conference’s final prelim stretch.

Meanwhile in San Juan, the Farm Fresh Foxies stamped their ticket to the quarterfinals. Led by Belgian gunner Hélène Rousseaux’s 31-point explosion (27 attacks, 3 blocks, 1 ace) and Philippine-American setter Alohi Robins‑Hardy’s 21 excellent sets, 9 points and unmatched composure, the Foxies held off the former dominant Petro Gazz Angels in a 25-21, 25-22, 21-25, 28-26 shell-shock.

Brooke Van Sickle led Petro Gazz with a triple-double of 16 points, 17 digs, and 10 receptions, while American import Lindsey Vander Weide matched her output with 16 points and 15 receptions.

With that win, Farm Fresh improved to 5-1, joining the elite in the knockout round and proving that a mature blend of import firepower and local foundation can deliver under pressure.

The contrasting storylines couldn’t be clearer: Chery Tiggo ekes out survival thanks to a single spectacular night; Farm Fresh hoists the banner of consistency and now enters the playoffs with momentum and swagger.

For Chery Tiggo, Batista’s blow-out night may have saved their season — but the real challenge now lies in sustaining it. For Capital1, the loss will sting — especially after such a promising run. And for Farm Fresh, their resume now reads like a contender.
