“You can count on me”: TNT’s Rondae Hollis-Jefferson publicly appeals for NBA return

Rondae Hollis-Jefferson may be an icon for fans of TNT Tropang Giga in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA), but the forward has set his sights on getting another shot at the National Basketball Association (NBA) and returning to play in the world’s most popular basketball league.

Hollis-Jefferson recently took to the social networking platform X (formerly known as Twitter) to publicly ask for an NBA team to give him another opportunity to display his talents in the league.

“Good morning, I was wondering if any teams had a training camp spot for a kind chap like myself. I’m like an SUV—got a lot of travel miles—but for the long haul (long season), you can count on me. I also keep good air flow amongst the team. I also can guard just about anyone,” Hollis-Jefferson wrote in his post.

It’s worth noting that the 30-year-old has played in the NBA before, having been selected as the 23rd overall pick by the Portland Trail Blazers in the 2015 NBA Draft, and was immediately traded to the Brooklyn Nets. He spent six seasons in the league, with his best years coming with the Nets, before signing a one-year deal with the Toronto Raptors in 2019 after Brooklyn’s management declined to extend a qualifying offer.

Hollis-Jefferson also signed a non-guaranteed preseason contract with the Minnesota Timberwolves on December 3, 2020, but was waived before the season began. He eventually signed with the Portland Trail Blazers for the remainder of the 2020–21 season, which turned out to be his last stint in the NBA.

The forward boasts NBA career averages of 9.0 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 1.9 assists per game across 305 appearances. His best season came in 2017–18, when he averaged 13.9 points and 6.8 rebounds per game while shooting 47 percent from the field.

“I also don’t mind getting guys better in practice—pushing them to the next level. Make it tough in scrimmages when necessary so the core guys can be elite in game situations,” he added.

Hollis-Jefferson has since found greater success overseas, particularly with Tropang Giga in the PBA, where he has established himself as their best player—leading them to three PBA championships and earning three PBA Best Import of the Conference honors.
