The PLDT High Speed Hitters saw their impressive 15-game unbeaten streak come to a stunning halt after being swept by an undermanned Cignal HD Spikers squad, 25-17, 25-22, 25-21, in the 2025 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Reinforced Conference on Tuesday, October 21, at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
The setback, which ended a seven-month run without defeat, didn’t rattle PLDT for long. The High Speed Hitters immediately regrouped and returned to winning form with a four-set triumph over the Farm Fresh Foxies, 22-25, 25-23, 25-14, 25-16, on Saturday, October 25, at the Ynares Center in Montalban.
Leading the charge was star outside hitter Savannah Davison, who turned her frustration into motivation. The Filipino-American standout delivered 20 points built on 18 attacks, one block, and one ace, while also contributing eight excellent receptions on defense.

After the game, Davison said the team’s performance was a statement of resilience rather than redemption.
“I think what tells a team is how they recover from a loss. I’m just glad that we showed up today. We didn’t take anything for granted. Point by point, we pushed the gap,” Davison shared. “I’m just happy, especially against a team like that — they have a lot of good athletes, especially Helene. So I’m dwelling on disappointment.”
The 26-year-old scorer emphasized that consistency will be key as the team moves forward.
“I think it’s a long road. We’re not even thinking of the playoffs yet — we’ve got to take care of business next week first, then recoup and reset. We’re heading into a crossover. Day by day, how do we stay healthy, how do we maintain, how do we get better? From here on out, it’s point by point, game by game,” she added.
Despite the shock defeat, PLDT remain atop the Pool A standings with a 3-1 win-loss record. The High Speed Hitters will look to build another streak when they face the Nxled Chameleons on Friday, October 31, at the FilOil EcoOil Arena.
