The Meralco Bolts have had a mixed start to their 2025 Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Philippine Cup campaign, winning three games and losing four to sit seventh in the standings.
Meralco are currently balancing commitments in both the Philippine Cup and the ongoing 2025–26 East Asia Super League (EASL) season—a demanding schedule that leaves little room for rest.
Unlike others, Bolts head coach Luigi Trillo is unfazed by the packed calendar, saying the team actually welcomes the challenge as an opportunity to sharpen their skills and showcase their quality.

“We are used to the grind. This is our third year playing in the EASL and the PBA at the same time. While others may find it demanding or even burdensome, we relish the opportunity. It allows us to play quality games, grow our brand, and give our players the platform to showcase their skills,” Trillo said in a media interaction.
While their Philippine Cup form has been inconsistent, Meralco have fared better in the EASL, holding a 2-2 record in Group B. They posted an impressive 2-1 win-loss record in November’s round of games, showing they have what it takes to manage the hectic stretch of fixtures.
The PBA is currently on an international break as Gilas Pilipinas competes in home-and-away matches against Guam in the first window of the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027 Asian Qualifiers.
Meralco will return to action on December 10 against the Terrafirma Dyip at the Ynares Center in Antipolo, giving Trillo’s squad some time to recharge. But the break won’t ease the grind for long, as the Bolts face another tight stretch, playing four games in just nine days.
“When we return, every game matters. Every team is battling for position, and we need results that will move us forward. These games will test our character. We are looking for toughness despite the difficult schedule. The quality of competition in both tournaments will only make us better,” he added.
It remains to be seen whether the demanding schedule will wear down the Meralco squad or serve as fuel, pushing them to even stronger performances on the court.
