WBA ranks Cebuano prospect Arvin Paciones in Flyweight Division

Cebu-native and rising boxing star Arvin Jhon Paciones has recently vanished from the World Boxing Association (WBA) junior flyweight rankings, despite previously holding the No. 1 contender spot in the division as of August 1. The development has raised eyebrows within the boxing community, especially considering Paciones’ momentum and undefeated record in the 108-pound weight class.

The 20-year-old pugilist, known in the ring as “The Sniper,” now appears in the flyweight division according to the latest rankings released by BoxingScene—recognized as the official publisher of WBA updates. 

As per the new list, Paciones is no longer mentioned among the contenders in the junior flyweight division but has instead surfaced as the WBA’s No. 13-ranked fighter in the flyweight division. Additionally, he is now listed at No. 15 under the International Boxing Federation (IBF) rankings for the same weight class.

Paciones, who boasts an unblemished professional record of 11 wins with six knockouts, has been steadily building his name in the international boxing scene.

 He is scheduled to return to the ring on August 30 in Thailand, where he will face Leonard Pores III of the PMI Bohol Boxing Stable in what is expected to be a key test in his new division.

The sudden move to the 112-pound flyweight class has sparked confusion among fans and analysts alike. As of now, neither the WBA nor Paciones’ management team has issued an official explanation for the ranking change or the decision to shift weight classes. The lack of clarity has led to speculation across boxing forums and social media platforms.

The transition could pose a setback for Paciones, particularly for those hoping to see him challenge for a world title this year in the WBA’s junior flyweight division. 

With his former No. 1 contender status no longer in effect, the path to a title shot may now be more uncertain and competitive in the flyweight division, which features a deeper and more experienced roster of fighters.
