Veteran Poy Erram delivers career-best performance to lead TNT to a 111–103 win over Rain or Shine

The TNT Tropang Giga continued their brilliant form in the ongoing Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Philippine Cup by defeating the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters, 111–103, at the Ynares Center in Antipolo on Wednesday, May 21.

Central to their victory was the performance of veteran center Poy Erram, who erupted for a career-best 31 points, while also adding six rebounds, two steals, and two blocks in just 21 minutes of playing time. He was extremely efficient on the court, shooting 10-of-12 from both the field and the free-throw line. Erram received solid support from Roger Pogoy and Calvin Oftana, who scored 35 and 28 points, respectively.

Despite achieving a career-high scoring performance, the 35-year-old was quick to credit his teammates, acknowledging that he wouldn’t have reached the mark without their help.

“I just let the game come to me. The defense focused on Roger Pogoy and Calvin Oftana, so I set good screens to get them open. But when the opponent doubled them, I ended up open. It’s a big thing when you have teammates like that,” Erram said in the post-match press conference.

“They are so unselfish. I’m lucky that my teammates look for me. Also, I played good defense. By playing good defense, your offense will follow,” he added.

Erram, Pogoy, and Oftana combined for 74 points, which is a good sign for Tropang Giga as they continue their rise up the standings in their bid to secure that elusive Grand Slam. Tropang Giga are on a three-game win streak and now sit joint-sixth in the Philippine Cup standings alongside Rain or Shine, both with a 4–3 win-loss record.

They will look to extend their streak when they face the NorthPort Batang Pier after a short break on Friday, May 30, at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Erram, meanwhile, will aim to win his fifth PBA championship with Tropang Giga as he enters the twilight of his career.
