Charles Oliveira re-established himself as one of the best fighters in the world after submitting Matheusz Gamrot in his home country of Brazil on Sunday.

It was evident from the first round that the former Lightweight world champion was looking for the finish, and in the second round, after hanging on Gamrot’s back, he successfully did so with a rear-naked choke.

Rio was in pandemonium as Oliveira rushed out of the octagon and into the crowd after moving one step closer to having the most wins in UFC history.

“I’m trying to hold back the tears right now. This is all for you guys,” Oliveira said in the post-fight interview.

“It’s not about money, fame, status or anything. Screw it, this is Brazil,” he added.

The all-time leader in finishes, submissions, and performance bonuses is dead set on what he wants next after calling out BMF champion Max Holloway.

“Hey [UFC executive] Hunter [Campbell], Charles Oliveira and Max Holloway, BMF — let’s make that happen,” he said.

Another hometown favorite Deiveson Figueiredo also grabbed a win with a split-decision victory against the streaking Montel Jackson.  The 37-year-old snapped his two-fight skid and stamped himself higher in the Flyweight rankings.

Meanwhile, Joel Alvarez demolished veteran Vincent Luque via a unanimous decision to send a message in the Welterweight division, after Mario Pinto stopped Brazil’s own Jhonata Diniz by TKO in Round 2.

Kaan Ofli began the main card with a rear-naked choke victory against Ricardo Ramos.
