Tyrus Hill joins TNT on one-year deal before PBA Season 50

The TNT Tropang Giga continue to make strategic moves in the free-agent market as they gear up for the highly anticipated 50th season of the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA).

On Monday, September 22, TNT officially announced the signing of free agent Tyrus Hill to a one-year deal. The contract was finalized in the presence of team manager Jojo Lastimosa and player agent Marvin Espiritu of EMBM.

Hill, 29, is expected to provide additional frontcourt depth for TNT as he embarks on his fourth season in the PBA. This will be his third team in the league, following stints with the Converge FiberXers and Blackwater Bossing. He became an unrestricted free agent after being released by Blackwater midway through the PBA Philippine Cup.

According to reports, Hill had initially drawn interest from the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters, but a contract offer did not materialize due to roster limitations.

“Yes, he went to Rain or Shine first. That’s why he eventually tried out with TNT,” Espiritu told reporters.

Hill now joins a Tropang Giga squad that came tantalizingly close to a historic Grand Slam last season. TNT captured the Governors’ Cup and Commissioner’s Cup, but fell just short of sweeping all three conferences after a runner-up finish to the San Miguel Beermen in the Philippine Cup Finals.

As the league marks its 50th season, the PBA is set to return to its traditional format. The Philippine Cup will once again open the season, followed by the Governors’ Cup, with the Commissioner’s Cup serving as the season-ending tournament—a reversal of the schedule used in recent years.

With Hill now on board, TNT looks to build on last season’s momentum and make another strong push for silverware in this milestone year.
