The footballing world was left in shock after one of the sport’s legends, Cristiano Ronaldo, recently announced that he plans to retire soon.
The former Real Madrid star has clarified when he really plans to retire, revealing that it may be in a year or two before he decides to end his illustrious career.
“Soon for me means in 10 years…No, I’m joking,” Ronaldo joked during a Saudi-hosted global summit on tourism and investment.
“I feel very good in this moment. I score goals, I still feel quick and sharp. I’m enjoying my game in the national team,” he added. “But of course, let’s be honest. What I mean by soon is probably one or two years.”

However, Ronaldo also said that he still enjoys playing football, as he aims to become the first footballer to reach 1000 goals.
“I’m really enjoying the moment right now. As you know, in football, when you reach some age, you count the months very quickly,” he said.
The 40-year-old recently signed a contract extension with Al-Nassr up until 2027, which lines up perfectly with his retirement timeline.
Besides reaching 1000 goals, Ronaldo will also seek the trophy that has eluded him in his career next year: the FIFA World Cup.
But for Ronaldo, he plans to enjoy what’s left of his career after already proving himself as one of the greats in the game.
“I gave everything for football. I’ve been in the game for the last 25 years. I did everything, I have many records in the different scenarios in the clubs and also in the national teams,” said Ronaldo.
“I’m really proud. So let’s enjoy the moment, live the moment,” he added.
