The Philippines is sending a 47-man strong delegation to the 2025 Chengdu World Games, with a mix of veterans and new-comers, they are set to compete in events that feature non-Olympic sports set to run from August 7-17.
Headlining the Philippines are wakeboarding sensation Raph Trinidad and Filipino Wushu icon Agatha Wong who are expected to bring home medals for the country.The duo flew out of Manila via China Airlines on early Tuesday.
“I am deeply grateful for the incredible honor and opportunity to showcase to the world that Filipinos have the talent and spirit to excel in wakeboarding,” said Trinidad,. “While I can’t predict the outcome, one thing is certain — I will give my absolute best. This is for my family, for everyone, and for the wakeboarding community.”
Trinidad is set to vie for a spot in the semifinals on August 8 at the Sancha Lake Taohuadao Arena, while Wong and Inso will see action in wushu taolu at the Hi-Tech Zone Sports Gymnasium, also on the same day.
Other notable athletes who will participate in the World Games are wake surfing athlete Eric Ordonez, who will arrive alongside Trinidad and Wong.
The largest wave of Filipino athletes is set to arrive on Wednesday, which includes the 12-man dragon boat squad, muay thai standout Rudzma Abubakar, and duathlon star Kim Mangrobang.
The athletes will take up residence in the Athletes’ Village—nicknamed ‘Chengdu Home’—which can accommodate up to 7,000 participants.
The final group of Filipino medal contenders, featuring billiards icons Rubilen Amit and Chezka Centeno, 10-ball specialist Jeff de Luna, and Asian Games jiu-jitsu medalists Annie Ramirez and Kaila Napolis, is scheduled to arrive on Friday.
