TNT’s Rey Nambatac named PBA Player of the Week for October 29 to November 2

The TNT Tropang Giga have reaffirmed their status as one of the premier teams in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA), opening the 2025 Philippine Cup in dominant fashion to seize the top spot in the standings.

At the heart of TNT’s strong start is Rey Nambatac, whose stellar play has been a key factor in the team’s early success. The 31-year-old guard delivered another clutch performance, powering the Tropang Giga to a thrilling 100-98 comeback win over the Meralco Bolts on Wednesday, October 29, at the Ynares Center in Antipolo.

Nambatac exploded for 22 points, including 20 in the second half and overtime, as TNT rallied from a 23-point deficit to complete the dramatic turnaround. His heroics earned him the PBA Press Corps Player of the Week award for the period of October 29 to November 2.

The former Letran standout edged out June Mar Fajardo and Juami Tiongson (San Miguel Beermen), Japeth Aguilar and Stephen Holt (Barangay Ginebra San Miguel), and Santi Santillan (Rain or Shine Elasto Painters) for the weekly citation handed out by journalists covering the league.

“It’s all about confidence,” said Nambatac. “Sobrang nanghihinayang talaga ako kasi kung pumasok ‘yung pangalawang four, tapos na. Pero naging motivation ko din nung overtime na hindi man four points, mashoot ko ‘yung last shot.”

The recognition marks a significant milestone in Nambatac’s comeback journey after missing most of last season’s All-Filipino Conference due to a groin injury. His absence derailed TNT’s pursuit of a historic PBA Grand Slam, leaving him eager to make amends this year.

With Nambatac back in form and TNT firing on all cylinders, the Tropang Giga sit atop the Philippine Cup standings with a 4-1 record. They look to extend their winning run when they face the Terrafirma Dyip on Friday, November 7, at the Ynares Center in Montalban.
