The Philippine women’s national football team, the Filipinas, suffered a 1–0 loss to Chinese Taipei in a rare home friendly at Rizal Memorial Stadium on June 3, 2025. This match was part of the team’s preparations for the upcoming Asian Cup qualifiers.

From the start, the visitors dominated possession and controlled the tempo of the match. Meanwhile, the Filipinas found it difficult to build sustained attacks, relying primarily on counterattacks and set pieces to create scoring opportunities.

Head coach Mark Torcaso fielded an inexperienced squad, primarily due to the absence of veteran stars like top scorers Sarina Bolden and Quinley Quezada, both of whom are currently  sidelined with injuries. The Filipinas were outplayed by a more active and aggressive Chinese Taipei squad.

Despite a strong defensive performance, the Filipinas couldn’t convert their chances into goals. Chinese Taipei capitalized on a second-half opportunity, securing the win with a goal that came from a well-executed counterattack. The Filipinas had several promising moments but were unable to break down the Taiwanese defense.

This friendly match marked a significant occasion, as it was the first time the Filipinas played a home international friendly in several years. The team will now regroup and focus on refining their strategies ahead of the Asian Cup qualifiers.
