Terrence Romeo, one of the most dynamic guards in Philippine basketball, has officially entered free agency after his contract with Terrafirma Dyip expired.
The 32-year-old star immediately became the most high-profile name available in the market, raising anticipation over where he will continue his career.
Despite receiving interest from international clubs, Romeo has made it clear that his main priority is to remain in the PBA. “Main priority ko siyempre is PBA kasi ang laki ng utang ko sa liga, d’yan ako nag-start eh,” Romeo said.
Fully healthy after battling injuries in recent years, he is eager to prove that he can still be an impact player for any team in the league.
Romeo was drafted fifth overall in the 2013 PBA Draft by GlobalPort Batang Pier, where he quickly earned a reputation as an explosive scorer. He won three consecutive PBA scoring titles from 2015 to 2017 and was named PBA All-Star MVP in 2017.
Over the course of his career, he has averaged 16.0 points, 3.0 assists, and 2.5 rebounds per game, with his best season coming in 2016 when he posted 23.3 points, 3.9 assists, and 3.7 rebounds. He later won three championships with the San Miguel Beermen, including a key role in their 2019 Philippine Cup triumph.
On the international stage, Romeo was a key figure for Gilas Pilipinas in the mid-2010s. He represented the country in the 2015 FIBA Asia Championship, where he earned praise for his fearless play and dazzling ball-handling, averaging 11.5 points per game against some of Asia’s top competition. His ability to create shots in isolation made him one of the most memorable guards to wear the national colors.
His most recent stint with Terrafirma Dyip was meant to mark a fresh chapter in his career. While injuries limited his time on the court, he still managed to post 11.2 points and 2.8 assists per game in the 2024 Philippine Cup, while providing veteran leadership to a young roster. Though not the volume scorer he once was, Romeo continued to show flashes of the skill and flair that made him a fan favorite.
As the biggest name in the current free agent pool, Romeo’s decision will be closely watched by fans and teams alike.
Other notable names on the PBA free agent list include veteran playmaker Jayvee Casio, forward Jackson Corpuz, Mac Belo, Kib Montalbo, Kent Salado, Allyn Bulanadi, Tyrus Hill, and David Murrell. Their availability, alongside Romeo, adds depth to the pool of experienced talents that teams may look to acquire heading into the next conference.
