Stephen Curry opens up on the struggles of fame and finding peace off the court

Golden State Warriors icon Stephen Curry is widely recognized as one of the greatest players in National Basketball Association (NBA) history and is credited with revolutionizing the way the sport is played.

Curry has achieved virtually everything in the NBA and is often referred to as the “greatest shooter” in league history. The 36-year-old has won four championship rings during his career, yet he continues to pursue another league title.

The superstar shooting guard is one of the most recognizable sporting figures in the world and has earned staggering amounts of money both on and off the court, thanks to lucrative endorsement deals. He also has millions of followers across social media.

However, with the fame and perks come intense media attention and constant fan presence. In a recent interview with Complex, Curry opened up about the downsides of fame and being so recognizable.

“I’m not out like in the streets because it’s kind of hard to move around at times unless you plan ahead. And then you don’t want to overcomplicate something simple like, ‘Hey, we just want to go to dinner in an hour,’ and I’ve got to make like seven phone calls just to make sure you can get where you need to go. I hate — I do hate that part of it,” Curry said.

Despite these drawbacks, Curry reiterated that he is highly appreciative of the love he receives across the world — from China to the Philippines — and at times enjoys the perks that come with his fame.

“So there is like a — maybe like going to a theme park or something — you can call and be like, ‘Hey, the Curry family wants to come in.’ And usually they will be accommodating. Might make you pay still, but they’ll make sure you are taken care of. That type of vibe,” he added.

The four-time NBA champion admitted that he rarely goes out and prefers to stay in, especially while on the road. He is known for taking time to interact with fans but likes to maintain balance between public life and personal peace.

“I don’t really go anywhere either. Like on the road, I’m pretty much a recluse. Like I’m in my room, that type of thing. I don’t ever take that for granted because I would rather that than the opposite. But you have to find some balance there for sure. Like I’ve got to be human at some point and find my peace,” Curry concluded.

Fame and recognition certainly have their benefits and drawbacks, but Curry has found a way to strike a balance — a key to maintaining peace of mind both on and off the court.
