Sean Gibbons eyes unification bout for Pedro Taduran

MP Promotions President Sean Gibbons is looking for a future unification bout between Filipino boxer Pedro Taduran and Oscar Collazo if the Filipino can successfully defend his International Boxing Federation (IBF) Minimumweight crown on the Thrilla in Manila 2 countdown card on Sunday, Oct. 26.

Taduran is set to defend his crown against undefeated mandatory challenger and fellow Filipino Christian Balunan. 

If he gets past Balunan, Taduran is set for a collision course with Collazo, who is the World Boxing Association (WBA) and World Boxing Organization (WBO) champion, for a high-profile unification bout.

“I will push for a unification fight,” Gibbons told the Daily Tribune.

Collazo has recently expressed his interest in fighting Taduran, specifically after finishing Filipino Jayson Vayson last month, when he called out Taduran and World Boxing Council (WBC) king Melvin Jerusalem.

Collazo ultimately wants to be Puerto Rico’s first undisputed champion and in order to do that, he must go through the Filipino gauntlet of Taduran and Jerusalem.

However, Taduran wants to take on that quest himself, starting with Balunan on Sunday, and Collazo in the future.

“He’s been telling everyone about his plan to become an undisputed champion but he hasn’t given me that opportunity,” Taduran said.

“I hope that if I beat Balunan, Collazo would be next,” he added.
