Savannah Davison’s hard work pays off as she leads PVL in blocking stats

Savannah Davison has rapidly emerged as one of the Premier Volleyball League’s (PVL) brightest stars and the undeniable leader of the PLDT High Speed Hitters.

Long known for her explosive offense, the Filipino-American outside hitter has added another dimension to her game — defense. After early-career struggles to find consistency at the net, Davison has transformed into one of the league’s most reliable blockers, standing her ground against the PVL’s top attackers.

That improvement has been reflected statistically, with Davison currently leading the blocking leaderboard in the first round of the 2025 PVL Reinforced Conference.

“I was actually the worst blocker in college,” Davison admitted with a laugh during a media interview. “After college, I tried to perfect the craft. I’m not going to lie, I get lucky at times, but for the most part, it’s a conscious effort — mentally, watching people. I’m just glad that it’s being executed well and that it’s turning into points for our team.”

Her all-around brilliance was once again on display in PLDT’s 25-19, 19-25, 25-16, 25-20 victory over the Galeries Tower Highrisers on Saturday, November 8, at the Candon City Arena.

Davison finished with 21 points built on 18 attacks and three blocks, powering the High Speed Hitters to their fifth win of the tournament.

PLDT head coach Rald Ricafort lauded Davison’s progress, highlighting how her defense and leadership have elevated the team’s performance.

“With Savi, isa ‘yun sa mga strong points niya,” Ricafort said. “Nagkataon lang din na as a team gumagana kami kapag nagsisimula sa mga wingers — ‘yung maayos na mark, maayos na blocking, lalo na kapag one-on-one. So sana magtuloy-tuloy.”

Riding on Davison’s stellar form, PLDT have opened the conference strongly with a 5–1 record, good for second place in the standings.

Ricafort and his squad will look to sustain their momentum when they face the Chery Tiggo Crossovers on Saturday, November 15, at the Ynares Center in Montalban.
