Savi Davison has never shied away from high-pressure moments, believing they bring out the best in her game. Last Tuesday, she proved it once again—rising to the occasion with a barrage of thunderous spikes that propelled the PLDT High Speed Hitters to their historic first PVL finals berth.
The 27-year-old outside hitter thrived under the spotlight, steering PLDT past the battle-tested Creamline Cool Smashers in a tense, do-or-die semifinal clash.
Davison unleashed a dominant 34-point performance, with eight of those coming in the fifth set alone. Her late-match heroics helped PLDT overturn a 1–2 set deficit, sealing a dramatic comeback victory and punching their ticket to the championship stage.
It was the kind of high-stakes moment she lives for—one that demands resilience and composure.
“Pressure is a privilege,” said the 27-year-old after PLDT’s 27-25, 22-25, 19-25, 25-16, 15-10 win over Creamline. “I tend to perform better when there’s a lot of pressure.
“So like that’s just my job, I wanna be in that role so I’m just glad it transpired the way it did and I’m glad it was in the fifth set,” she added.
Taking on the league’s most decorated franchise, one backed by arguably the largest fan base, and with a finals spot hanging in the balance, Davison couldn’t have asked for a bigger stage to prove herself. And she seized it.
“It’s always a good feeling to win. This one’s a little bit more sweet because they’re just hard competitors. It makes you look back at all the hard work and the sacrifices and all the days that you didn’t wanna show up but you did,” said the spiker from Toronto.
“But like I said, it’s a great feeling to be a part of, and I know throughout this season that we’ve grown closer together because of sacrifices and the hard work. Like I said, I’m glad it transpired and I’m glad… I’m not glad it was Creamline, but I’m glad we’re going to the finals,” she added.
Despite her standout showing, Davison was quick to emphasize that her success was a product of teamwork.
She understands that big moments also come with big responsibilities, and she’s ready to carry that weight—especially with her teammates standing firmly behind her.
“I think I’ve always felt supported. It’s not so much about what other people do in the game, it’s just another look on the other side of the court, or in the middle, or coming from different angles, so it’s not so much like I didn’t feel like anybody was supporting me,” said Davison.
“But now, there’s people firing from all cylinders across the net and that’s really hard to defend. So it makes my job a little easier, because it opens up some space for me right at the same time I open up some space for them so it’s a give and take. I’m just glad that we complement each other.”
