The PLDT High Speed Hitters have been brilliant in the initial stages of the 2025 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) On Tour preseason tournament, currently boasting a perfect 3-0 record to top the Pool A standings.

The High Speed Hitters have grown stronger with the news that star player Savannah Davison is set to join the squad for their weekend games in Cebu City. PLDT head coach Rald Ricafort confirmed in a media interaction that the Filipino-Canadian star is back after a well-deserved break. Ricafort added that although Davison is in top shape despite her time off, she will not be rushed into action, as the priority is to test a new tactical system ahead of the upcoming season.

“Physically, she is in good condition. But since we have made some adjustments to our system this conference, we will ease her in gradually, depending on how the game goes,” Ricafort said.

Davison, who won the All-Filipino Conference Best Outside Spiker award, last played for PLDT in the 2024 All-Filipino Conference and the Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) Champions League in Pasig City. Notably, PLDT were eliminated in the quarterfinals of the AVC Champions League.

The 26-year-old has already started training with the likes of Kianna Dy, Kim Fajardo, Majoy Baron, Mike Reyes, Kiesha Bedonia, Jovy Prado, and Kath Arado since returning to the Philippines.

The High Speed Hitters are preparing for two tough encounters against the Nxled Chameleons and the Galeries Tower Highrisers, with the former also unbeaten in the PVL On Tour.

“We know facing Nxled and Galeries is crucial since we are close in the standings along with Farm Fresh, so we need to lock in and double our efforts for these two games while taking it one game at a time. I don’t think we have any clear advantage since all teams have really improved, so we will just have to work hard again to earn it,” Ricafort added.

The torrential downpour in Manila has caused major flooding across the city, and PLDT, too, were affected by the southwest monsoon. The entire team was stranded after practice on Monday, July 21, in a gym in Quezon City and had to be rescued by the Philippine Coast Guard and Army.

“We had to cancel our weekend and Tuesday practices since we got stranded last Monday, so our preparation became tighter. Hopefully, we can execute the strategies and scouting we prepared for this weekend,” Ricafort concluded.

PLDT will next be in action against Nxled on Saturday, July 26, at the USJ-R Coliseum in Cebu City, with the winner of the clash clinching the first outright quarterfinal berth in Pool A.
