The PLDT High Speed Hitters have quickly cemented their status as one of the Premier Volleyball League’s (PVL) most formidable contenders, now standing on the brink of a rare PVL hat-trick after storming into the semifinals.

PLDT powered past the Cignal HD Spikers, 25–21, 25–18, 23–25, 25–21, in their quarterfinal showdown on Monday, November 24, at the Smart Araneta Coliseum, validating their tag as the team to beat.

Having already secured the Invitational Conference title and dominated the On Tour preseason tournament, the High Speed Hitters enter the semifinals as heavy favorites. Still, star outside hitter Savannah Davison insists the team is keeping its focus narrow.

“You know, it’s not really thinking about the title. It’s more taking it game by game. When you look too far, you kind of lose track of what’s happening in the now,” Davison said in a media interaction.

Their next challenge will be no easy task. PLDT is set to face the surging ZUS Coffee Thunderbelles, anchored by the explosive play of star import Anna DeBeer. Davison is familiar with the Louisville standout, having followed her collegiate career in the United States.

“I didn’t play her in college, she is a lot younger than I am. But her freshman year, she was incredible. I kind of followed her throughout her career at Louisville. A lot of my girlfriends back home played against her,” she shared.

Davison, who previously expressed admiration for DeBeer when they met earlier this conference in Candon City, Ilocos Sur, acknowledged the challenge of containing the young outside hitter.

“I just told her I’m a big fan. She had a really good career in the States. So it’s nice seeing familiar faces here. She is really good offensively. She’s smart. She can hit over the block. She jumps really high. The biggest thing is how can we target the rest of the team. Not limit Anna entirely, but slow her down,” she continued.

Now one of the PVL’s brightest stars, Davison has evolved into the heart of the PLDT squad. Long known for her explosive scoring, the Filipino-American standout has transformed into one of the league’s most reliable blockers, addressing early-career inconsistencies at the net and rounding out her game.

Davison will once again be central to PLDT’s bid for another finals appearance when they battle ZUS Coffee on Thursday, November 27, at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
