San Miguel legend June Mar Fajardo is leading the Philippine Cup Best Player of the Conference race

San Miguel Beermen legend June Mar Fajardo is arguably the greatest player in Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) history, as evidenced by his record eight Most Valuable Player (MVP) awards.

Fajardo continues to perform at an elite level for both club and country at the age of 35 and is set to add another accolade to his already bulging trophy cabinet. He currently leads the race for a record-extending 12th PBA Best Player of the Conference award after topping the statistical category at the end of the ongoing Philippine Cup elimination stage.

The center was his usual consistent self in the Philippine Cup, averaging 17.5 points, 13.1 rebounds, and 3.3 assists, helping San Miguel finish at the top of the standings with an 8–3 win-loss record. He garnered 40.4 Statistical Points (SP), according to the numbers released by the league on Thursday, June 19.

However, Fajardo faces stiff competition from his teammate CJ Perez, who finished the elimination round averaging a league-best 23.4 points, along with 4.9 rebounds, 4.3 assists, and 1.8 steals, for a total of 38.5 SP. Notably, Perez has won the Best Player of the Conference once and could become just the 19th player in PBA history to win the award multiple times.

NLEX Road Warriors guard Robert Bolick ranked third with 37.6 SP, thanks to averages of 18.3 points, 6.7 rebounds, a league-high 7.2 assists, and 1.3 steals. Magnolia Hotshots center Zavier Lucero followed closely in fourth with 37.3 SP, producing 18.9 points, 8.0 rebounds, 1.9 assists, 1.0 steal, and 1.5 blocks. TNT Tropang Giga’s Calvin Oftana rounded out the top five with 35.4 SP, based on averages of 20.4 points, 7.2 rebounds, 3.2 assists, and 1.1 steals.

If Fajardo wins, it will be his 12th Best Player of the Conference award—his most recent coming on Sunday, November 3, for his performance in the 2024 Governors’ Cup.

The Best Player of the Conference award is determined by 45% statistical points, 30% media votes, and 25% player votes.
