RP Blu Girls seek to maintain SEA Games dominance

The RP Blu Girls are back in the spotlight, with eyes firmly fixed on defending their longstanding supremacy in women’s softball as the region’s top team once again.

With the return of their chance at SEA Games gold, after softball’s absence in the last two editions,  expectations are high that the Filipinas will remain a force to reckon with.

Despite a multi-year gap since their last SEA Games appearance in 2019, the team’s hunger for victory remains undiminished.

“Even if there was no softball in the last two SEA Games, it’s nothing less than the gold medal for the team,” head coach Ana Santiago said.

“We’re so happy that softball’s back in the SEA Games. Our team is ready,” she added.

With a decorated history in the biennial meet, the Blu Girls have amassed 11 gold medals since 1979.

New blood joins the squad, with players such as Charlotte Sales (third base) and Roma Cruz (outfield) making their first SEA Games appearance alongside veteran and new teammates, including Fil-Americans and holdovers from the 2019 roster.

The competition will be tough, with teams like the Singapore women’s softball team viewed as major threats this time around.

As the 33rd Southeast Asian Games approach, all eyes will be on the Blu Girls as they seek to extend their reign and bring pride once more to the Philippines.
