Quentin Millora-Brown replaces Kai Sotto for Gilas Pilipinas in FIBA World Cup qualifiers

Most fans thought hope for a successful run in the  2027 FIBA World Cup Qualifiers was lost for Gilas Pilipinas after it was announced that star center Kai Sotto would not be able to suit up for the country due to ACL tear recovery.

But for head coach Tim Cone, he has an ace up his sleeve, tapping former University of the Philippines standout Quentin Millora-Brown to replace Sotto for the upcoming qualifiers.

According to SPIN.PH’s Homer Sayson, sources have confirmed that QMB will play for Gilas in the Nov. 28 and Dec. 1 contests against Guam.

Sotto underwent surgery for his torn ACL last January and has been recovering ever since. Millora-Brown, on the other hand, had been negotiating to play for Gilas since August.

Talks were finalized in September for the 6’10 powerhouse to play in November for Gilas, and it couldn’t come at a better time.

QMB was also tapped to play for Gilas in the upcoming 33rd Southeast Asian (SEA) Games this December, but plans changed after he got his passport.

He will join a frontcourt lineup that consists of veterans Japeth Aguilar, Junemar Fajardo, and fellow UAAP standout Mason Amos.

Justin Brownlee is slated to play but is still doubtful due to pneumonia. The Barangay Gineba San Miguel import was also slated to play for the Meralco Bolts in the East Asian Super League (EASL) but was not able to.

Gilas will play Guam in the first game held at Calvo Field House on Friday, Nov. 28, and again on Monday, Dec. 1, at the Blue Eagle Gym.
