Quentin Millora-Brown cleared to play for Gilas Pilipinas as a local by FIBA

Quentin Millora-Brown emerged as a standout player for the UP Fighting Maroons in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP), leading his university to the UAAP championship in 2024.

Millora-Brown’s performances in the UAAP have led to strong clamor for the 24-year-old to be included in the Gilas Pilipinas squad. In good news for the Philippine men’s national basketball team, FIBA has now officially classified the Filipino-American as a local and not a naturalized player, following an appeal by his legal team.

“That is correct. Our lawyers Ale Mosca and Toni Verano were able to negotiate a successful final decision. I’m just thrilled for QMB because he wanted to represent the Philippines so badly, and I am grateful to FIBA for a favorable final decision,” Millora-Brown’s agent, Tom Seidel, said in a statement.

The FIBA ruling means that Millora-Brown will be eligible to play for Gilas as a local in the 2027 FIBA World Cup Asian Qualifiers, which kick off in November, as well as in the Philippines’ defense of its Southeast Asian Games basketball gold medal in December in Bangkok.

Gilas head coach Tim Cone was thrilled to hear that Millora-Brown would be able to represent the country as a local, revealing that they would certainly welcome him if the news was confirmed.

“I haven’t heard that, but if that’s the case — that he is a local — we certainly would welcome him. He is awesome. I would love to have him. He is physical. He gets to the offensive boards really well. Great size,” Cone said in a media interaction.

Meanwhile, the forward’s club future remains uncertain, after he recently confirmed that he would not be entering his name in Season 50 of the PBA Rookie Draft, as he is currently eyeing a stint in Europe and is eager to play in one of the European leagues.

Reports have emerged that Millora-Brown has received an offer to play in the Japan B. League, although nothing has been confirmed as yet.
