Alas Pilipinas Players to Return to PVL Clubs in Time for Reinforced Conference

Alas Pilipinas Women players will be reunited with their Premier Volleyball League (PVL) squads by October 15, marking the end of the FIVB national team period.

Their return will coincide with the opening of the 2025 PVL Reinforced Conference, scheduled from October to November, just weeks ahead of the 33rd Southeast Asian Games in Thailand this December.

Seventeen players, both current stars and incoming talents, were loaned to the national team over the past two months.

During that time, Alas turned in an impressive campaign, claiming a silver medal at the AVC Women’s Volleyball Nations Cup, making a strong showing in the 2025 VTV Cup, and finishing with back-to-back bronze medals in the SEA V. League.

The absence of these players was felt across the league. Out of 12 PVL teams, 10 were forced to compete without at least one Alas member during the recently concluded 2025 PVL on Tour. Even the semifinalists — PLDT, Chery Tiggo, Creamline, and Cignal — will have to wait until October before fielding their full rosters again, as their Alas representatives remain unavailable for the Invitational Conference starting August 21.

Among those set to return are the Akari Chargers’ La Salle trio of Fifi Sharma, Justine Jazareno, and Mars Alba, who all missed preseason action.

Capital1 also loaned rising stars Bella Belen and Leila Cruz to the national team. Choco Mucho had to make do without Maddie Madayag and Tia Andaya, while Cignal HD Spikers gave up Vanie Gandler and veteran libero Dawn Macandili-Catindig, leaving MVP Erika Santos to carry the load in their fourth-place finish.

The newly crowned PVL on Tour champions PLDT were also two players short, with Alleiah Malaluan and Dell Palomata serving the national team. Palomata’s absence was particularly felt, though it paved the way for Majoy Baron and Finals MVP Mika Reyes to step up during their title run. Creamline, meanwhile, awaits the return of setter Jia De Guzman, who has been juggling her commitments with Alas and Japan’s Denso Airybees in the V.League.

Chery Tiggo will also welcome back defensive specialist Jennifer Nierva, while Galeries Tower regains young playmaker Julia Coronel, who had been part of the Alas pool for most of 2025. Lastly, ZUS Coffee looks forward to the return of middle blocker Thea Gagate, though her status remains uncertain after sustaining an injury in the national team’s most recent outing.

With the national team window closing, the spotlight shifts back to the PVL. The return of these stars is expected to significantly alter the balance of the Reinforced Conference and provide clubs a much-needed boost as the competition heats up, serving as a crucial lead-up to the SEA Games where many of these players will once again represent the Philippines.

The PVL resumes on August 21 with the Invitational Conference, featuring PLDT, Chery Tiggo, Creamline, and Cignal battling Japan’s Kurashiki Ablaze and Kobe Shinwa University starting at 4 p.m.
