Even though the Filipina5 ended their campaign at the FIFA Women’s Futsal World Cup without a win, Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) Chairman Patrick Gregorio stepped forward afterward with a rallying cry.
Inside the packed PhilSports Arena, following the Philippines’ 5–1 loss to tournament powerhouse Argentina, the home crowd’s cheers told a different story.
Despite the defeat, the Filipina5 and the entire nation walked away with renewed pride and a sense of possibility.
Gregorio remained optimistic about the Filipina5’s future, saying that they have the tools to replicate powerhouse Argentina’s success internationally.
“I was looking at Team Argentina. Nothing is different, same size, same physique. The only thing that’s different is they’ve been doing it for 50 years. But if we put our minds and hearts into this, can we do it? Yes,” Gregorio said.

According to Gregorio, hosting the World Cup was about planting seeds for a future where futsal and football can flourish in the Philippines.
He reminded the players and the nation that the investment in this tournament was meant to show the world that Filipino athletes can stand toe-to-toe with the best.
“That’s why we did this – not just for wins tonight, but for long-term growth,” he emphasized.
The lone goal by Isabella Bandoja against Argentina may not have changed the final result, but it was a symbol of hope for a nation seeking to break through the futsal barrier.
“Because I believe in you, you have to believe, too. And if you believe, 112 million Filipinos will believe. And we’re proud of you,” said Gregorio.
