Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) chief Pato Gregorio says the upcoming 2025 Southeast Asian (SEA) Games isn’t just about winning regional medals; it’s also about a strategic stepping stone for Filipino athletes to shine on bigger stages such as the Asian Games and the Olympics.
Gregorio argued that sending a large delegation is part of a long-term investment to harness athletes’ abilities and confidence on the international stage.
“When you send a delegation, they learn. When you send a big delegation, they get the exposure, they get the confidence,” he said during the official send-off at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum.

He added that this exposure is not just for seasoned athletes, but also for developing talents.
“Para mabigyan lahat ng exposure … para magkaroon ng mas maraming medalya. Pero … ‘yan ang investment natin so they can compete better pagdating ng Asian Games at Olympics,” Gregorio said.
With the Philippines sending a record-high delegation of roughly 1,600 athletes, coaches, and officials to the SEA Games 2025, the PSC is making a clear statement about its plans for long-term success in the Asian Games and the LA Olympics.
Gregorio also assured the public that all Filipino athletes currently in Thailand remain safe despite the heavy flooding that has inundated several parts of the country in recent days.
Due to the severe weather conditions, organizers have already relocated 11 sports to Bangkok. One of the hardest-hit areas is Songkhla, originally slated to host multiple events for the regional meet.
