Late Drama, Big Upsets. It was a weekend to remember in the Premier League as the top flight saw changes with a dramatic finish, eclipsing a huge upset of a powerhouse. Manchester continues to be a story of two clubs’ rise and fall, while there is still uncertainty about which clubs will stay in the mid to lower tables.
Here is everything you need to know to catch up on this past weekend’s Premier League fixtures.
Arsenal Snatch Win in 96th Minute
In perhaps the most dramatic finish of the weekend, Arsenal edged out Newcastle United 2-1 at St. James’ Park.
After trailing 1-0 from a Nick Woltemade header, the Gunners rallied late. Mikel Merino brought them level with a header in the 84th minute, and in the 96th, Gabriel Magalhães rose to nod home a corner and seal a sensational comeback. The win lifts Arsenal to 13 points from six matches, creeping within two of Liverpool at the summit.
Palace Shock Liverpool in Stoppage Time
At Selhurst Park, Crystal Palace delivered a punch to the title hopes of Liverpool.
Eagles forward Ismaila Sarr opened the scoring early, and despite Federico Chiesa’s equalizer in the 87th minute, Palace weren’t done. Substitute Eddie Nketiah struck in stoppage time after a tense VAR review to win the game, 2-1, and halt the Reds’ perfect start.
Manchester City Surge Past Burnley
Manchester City showed why they remain among the favorites, cruising to a 5-1 win over Burnley.
Their offense was ruthless, aided by two own goals from Burnley defenders and a late brace from Erling Haaland. The visitors never found rhythm, and City’s dominance across the pitch was telling.
The result sends a message: when City clicks, they are still a force to be reckoned with.
Brentford’s Statement Over United
In a surprising – but really unsurprising – result, Brentford dismantled Manchester United 3-1 at home.
Igor Thiago struck twice to put the hosts firmly in control, and Matthias Jensen capped things off with a superb long-range finish. United responded via a Sesko strike, but were undone by a missed penalty and defensive lapses.
Brighton Turn the Tide Against Chelsea
Chelsea’s struggles continued as Brighton & Hove Albion stormed to a 3-1 victory at Stamford Bridge.
The turning point came after Trevoh Chalobah was sent off for denying a clear goalscoring opportunity. Danny Welbeck starred, scoring twice and helping Brighton exploit the numerical advantage late to seal the win.
Tottenham Held by Wolves
Tottenham Hotspur had to settle for a 1-1 draw against Wolves, after João Palhinha converted a stoppage-time equalizer.
Spurs had looked likely to win earlier, but a resilient Wolves side hung on. The point keeps Spurs in the mix, but also raises questions about their ability to close games.
Villa’s First Win, Fulham Falter
Aston Villa picked up their first league win of the campaign by coming from behind to defeat Fulham 3-1.
Raul Jiménez gave Fulham the early advantage, but Villa hit back via Ollie Watkins in the 37th minute, John McGinn in the 49th, and Emiliano Buendía in the 51st.
Leeds & Bournemouth Share Spoils
In what became a back-and-forth affair, Leeds United and Bournemouth split the points in a 2-2 draw.
Leeds struck late through Eli Junior Kroupi, rescuing a point after conceding earlier. The match underscored both sides’ attacking intent—but also their defensive flaws.
Sunderland Upset at Forest
Sunderland stunned Nottingham Forest with a 1-0 away victory. Forest, playing at home and perhaps looking to assert, were surprised by a compact, disciplined Sunderland side that capitalized on their opportunity.
