Philippine National Volleyball Federation (PNVF) head coach Tats Suzara apologized for the issues that arose during the 2025 FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship in Manila.
Controversy surrounded the country’s hosting of the event since the opening on Friday, Sept. 12, after fans expressed dismay with high ticket prices for the games. This led to dismal attendance during the early games of the group stages until PNVF slashed the prices halfway through the event.
The issues only ramped up after a SPIN.ph report was barred from the event after the publication reported on the tournament’s subpar attendance records, alongside Rappler, which was reprimanded.
Suzara called out to the people he may have hurt, citing the “pressures” of hosting Volleyball’s most important event.
“Kung mayroon akong nasaktahan sa inyo, pasensya na because all the pressures are here,” Suzara said.
The president also called on the media for more “positive” reporting to ensure the country reaches its potential in volleyball.
“I always need to have a positive support sa inyong lahat because it will bring our country to the highest level in volleyball,” he said.

Before the event concluded, FIVB president Fabio Azevedo called the country’s hosting of the event a “ten out of ten.”
Despite this, Suzara said there is still a lot to improve as the country is set to host the women’s iteration of the tournament in 2029.
“They say it’s the best ever [World Championship], unforgettable, but we still need to improve a lot in some areas, but I think we have given our best,” Suzara said.
“There’s still many things but as of now, we had a score of 10 out of 10 and I’m sure we can do better,” he added.
The tournament concluded with Italy winning their second consecutive title after toppling Bulgaria, 25-21, 25-17, 17-25, 25-10.
