PLDT stars bring sparkle to PBA’s golden season opener as TNT muses

When the PBA opened its landmark 50th season at the Smart Araneta Coliseum last Sunday, five familiar faces from the volleyball world traded their jerseys for gowns — and brought a touch of PLDT pride to the hardwood.

Savi DavisonMika ReyesKianna Dy, Majoy Baron, and Jessey De Leon — the powerhouse core of the PLDT High Speed Hitters — stepped into a different spotlight as they joined the TNT Tropang Giga during the parade of teams, representing their sister squad under the MVP Group banner.

For a day, the usually intense, sweat-soaked athletes became the stars of the pregame pageantry, celebrating not just basketball, but also the shared culture of excellence that runs across the MVP sports family.

“It was a first for some of us. It was very exciting kasi minsan lang kami mag-ayos, madalas we are just in our workout outfits. It was a great experience, especially since we are representing our sister team, TNT,” said Kianna Dy, still glowing from the experience during PLDT and TNT’s “Champions Together” event on Monday. “It was so much fun.”

The volleyball muses — greeted by cheers from fans who usually see them dominating on the PVL Taraflex — added a unique charm to the PBA’s golden season opener. For Dy and company, it was a reminder that sport, at its core, is about connection — across teams, disciplines, and fans.

For veteran middle blocker Mika Reyes, the parade was also a nostalgic moment. She previously served as a muse for Barako Bull back in 2015, but this time, representing TNT made it feel closer to home.

“Of course, we are very proud to be part of the PBA opening, lalo na that we got to represent TNT. We are very happy that we were part of the opening,” Reyes shared.

Their participation wasn’t just a cameo; it was a symbol of solidarity. As the MVP Group continues to dominate both volleyball and basketball, the presence of PLDT’s stars in the PBA ceremony underscored the unity among sister teams — TNT, Meralco, NLEX, and Cignal — all striving for excellence in their respective arenas.

“Bigyan natin ng suporta ang lahat ng MVP teams,” Reyes added, echoing a sentiment that goes beyond leagues and titles — one that celebrates the shared spirit of teamwork and pride that defines Filipino sports.
