PLDT extends win streak to 15 in rout of Choco Mucho

The PLDT High Speed Hitters are proving that dominance isn’t just a phase — it’s a habit.

PLDT continued its blazing form in the 2025 PVL Reinforced Conference, turning what was billed as a marquee showdown into another clinic, sweeping the Choco Mucho Flying Titans, 25-21, 25-20, 25-19, on Thursday night at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

The win marked the High Speed Hitters’ 15th consecutive victory across all tournaments — a streak that began during their unbeaten runs in both the PVL on Tour and Invitational — and their second straight triumph to start the Reinforced Conference.

The Flying Titans, energized by the long-awaited debut of American import Marlee Smith, threatened to shake PLDT’s rhythm in the third frame. Down 7-18, Choco Mucho launched a fiery comeback behind Smith and veteran Dindin Manabat, slicing the deficit to just four, 15-19.

But PLDT’s battle-tested trio — Savi Davison, Anastasiia Bavykina, and Majoy Baron — quickly extinguished the rally with a composed finish, closing the match in just one hour and 32 minutes.

Davison once again led from the front, tallying 19 points built on 15 attacks, three blocks, and an ace, while also contributing defensively with nine excellent receptions and seven digs. Russian import Bavykina complemented her with 13 points, and Kianna Dy added nine more.

“We just stayed composed and trusted our system,” said Davison postgame. “Choco Mucho came back hard, but we knew we had to stick to what works — teamwork and communication.”

For PLDT, the result wasn’t just another win — it was a statement of consistency. The High Speed Hitters are now tied with the Farm Fresh Foxies atop Pool A with identical 2-0 slates and will look to extend their streak to 16 against Cignal on Tuesday, still at the Big Dome.

Meanwhile, Choco Mucho found little rhythm despite the offensive spark from their new reinforcement. Smith, finally cleared to play after resolving documentation issues, impressed individually with 20 points — but the lack of scoring support doomed the Flying Titans.

Isa Molde, Aduke Ogunsanya, and Cherry Nunag combined for only 12 points, as the team dropped to 1-1 — tied with Capital1 in the middle of Pool A standings.

“It’s a start for me and for this team,” said Smith, who vowed to find better chemistry with her new teammates. “We’ll get there. This league has great competition — that’s what we came for.”

The Flying Titans aim to regroup on Tuesday when they face the winless Nxled Chameleons in a crucial bounce-back bid.
