The Philippines is set to make history as it welcomes the world’s most promising young gymnasts, having been awarded the prestigious hosting rights for the 3rd FIG Artistic Gymnastics Junior World Championships.
The event, a significant milestone for Philippine sports, will take place from November 15 to 24, 2025, at the Marriott Grand Ballroom in Taguig, Metro Manila.
The International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) Executive Committee’s decision to award the championship to the Philippines underscores the country’s growing stature in the global gymnastics community, particularly in light of the successes of Filipino gymnasts on the international stage, most notably Olympic medalist Carlos Yulo.
Cynthia Carrion, President of the Gymnastics Association of the Philippines (GAP), expressed immense gratitude and commitment following the announcement. “The Philippines is very grateful and happy to be given the hosting rights for the 3rd FIG Artistic Gymnastics Junior World Championships.
It is the very first time that the FIG has given us this honor and I will do everything in my power to make sure it is a successful event since FIG President Watanabe and the FIG Executive Committee have put their trust in me,” Carrion stated.
FIG President Morinari Watanabe highlighted the significance of holding both the junior and senior artistic gymnastics world championships in countries that have not previously hosted such major events. The 2025 Senior World Artistic Gymnastics Championships will be held in Jakarta, Indonesia, in October, making it a unique year for gymnastics in Southeast Asia.
The Junior World Championships will feature the brightest young talents in artistic gymnastics, with boys aged 16-17 and girls aged 14-15 competing across various disciplines.
The competition program includes eight boys’ disciplines (team, all-around, floor exercise, pommel horse, rings, vault, parallel bars, and horizontal bar) and six girls’ disciplines (team, all-around, vault, uneven bars, balance beam, and floor exercise), with a total of 14 sets of medals at stake.
Hosting an event of this magnitude requires extensive preparation, from ensuring world-class facilities to meticulous logistical planning. The Marriott Grand Ballroom, known for its expansive and modern amenities, is well-suited to accommodate the demanding requirements of an international gymnastics competition.
This hosting opportunity is expected to further inspire and develop the sport of gymnastics within the Philippines, providing local athletes with exposure to top-tier competition and a chance to compete on home soil. It also signifies the Philippines’ capability to stage major international sporting events, solidifying its position as a burgeoning sports tourism destination in the region.
