The Philippine National Badminton Open (PNBO) 2025 is set to ignite the courts of the Rizal Memorial Complex from July 7 to 12, 2025, promising a week of intense competition as the nation’s top shuttlers vie for supremacy and a coveted spot in the national team.

With over 500 players expected to participate, this year’s edition, sanctioned as a PBAD Super 1000 event, boasts a substantial ₱1 million prize pool.

“This is the biggest event for the Philippine Badminton Association because this annual event attracts the best shuttlers from all across the country,” stated PBAD secretary general Carla Lizardo-Sulit in a recent interview. “It’s the biggest source of points in our local ranking system, so if you want to earn a shot in the national team, this is it.”

The PNBO serves as a critical platform for identifying and developing talent, aligning with the Philippine Badminton Association’s (PBAD) ultimate goal of sending Filipino shuttlers to the Olympics, with a clear aim for Los Angeles 2028.

Fans can expect to see a strong contingent of familiar faces, including the defending champions from last year’s highly competitive tournament.

In the men’s singles division, all eyes will be on Jewel Albo, who clinched the title in the previous edition. He’s expected to face stiff competition from a field of hungry contenders looking to dethrone him.

For the women’s singles crown, Mika De Guzman will be looking to replicate her dominant performance from last year. Her agility and strategic play make her a formidable opponent, but the women’s field is deep with rising stars ready to challenge her reign.

The doubles categories also promise thrilling action. The formidable tandem of Lea Inlayo and Nicole Albo will be back to defend their women’s doubles title, showcasing their synchronized play and strong court coverage.

In the men’s doubles, the reigning champions Ariel Magnaye and Christian Bernardo are poised to prove their dominance once more. Bernardo, a true workhorse, even celebrated a double victory last year, also topping the mixed doubles division.

He is expected to partner again with Alyssa Leonardo in the mixed doubles, aiming for another stellar performance.

Beyond the established champions, the PNBO 2025 is a crucial event for emerging talents looking to make their mark and earn vital ranking points. The atmosphere at the Rizal Memorial Badminton Hall and Rizal Memorial Coliseum is anticipated to be electric, as players lay it all on the line for national glory and a step closer to international recognition.

Matches will be aired through Cignal TV’s One Sports and One Sports+ channels and will be livestreamed via the Pilipinas LIVE app, ensuring that badminton enthusiasts across the nation can follow every smash and rally. Tickets for venue access are also available via TicketMAX for as low as Php50, inviting fans to witness the future of Philippine badminton unfold live.
