The 33rd Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games) officially opened in Bangkok, Thailand, on December 9, with the Philippines sending one of its largest contingents ever—a 1,600-strong delegation competing across various sports.
Among the sizeable Philippine delegation is the national softball program, which enters the competition aiming to bring honor to the country. Amateur Softball Association of the Philippines (Asa-Phil) president Jean Henri Lhuillier expressed strong confidence that both the men’s and women’s teams are poised to win medals in the regional meet.
Lhuillier noted that the two squads have strengthened their rosters, sharpened their preparations, and aligned their goals toward delivering outstanding results.

“Our Blu Boys and Blu Girls embody the passion, grit, and excellence of Filipino athletes. Their discipline and determination give me complete confidence. I believe they are ready to deliver strong performances – and to bring home the gold for the Philippines,” Lhuillier said in a media interaction.
The Blu Girls enter the tournament as the defending champions after claiming gold in the 2019 SEA Games in Cambodia. The Blu Boys, meanwhile, head into competition with a mix of international exposure and domestic experience that has solidified their readiness.
According to Lhuillier, both squads demonstrate qualities essential for success, and he remains optimistic that they will uphold the Philippines’ reputation as one of Southeast Asia’s strongest softball nations.
“These athletes carry the hopes of the country every time they step on the field. Their unity and fighting spirit reflect the very best of Philippine softball. We are proud to support them as they strive for gold in Thailand,” he added.
Softball events at the SEA Games will run from Monday, December 15, to Friday, December 19. The Blu Boys will kick off their campaign against Malaysia, while the Blu Girls will face Singapore in their opening match.
