PFF says Filipina5 “ready” for upcoming Futsal Worlds

A historic moment for Philippine futsal begins on Thursday as the country steps into the global spotlight, hosting the inaugural FIFA Futsal Women’s World Cup at the Philsports Complex in Pasig. But before the bright lights and the opening whistle, the national team—the Filipina5—returns home with renewed sharpness, stronger chemistry, and a bold message: they’re not here just to participate—they’re here to win.

The Philippine Football Federation (PFF) believes this group is entering the tournament in its best form yet, fueled by a rigorous two-week training camp in Spain, a nation widely regarded as the heartbeat of world futsal.

PFF president John Gutierrez shared that the overseas stint was more than just a tune-up—it was an immersion in elite competition.

“The team came from a successful camp in Spain, the world’s top futsal league hub. They played four friendlies and arrived home on 12 November,” Gutierrez said during the weekly Philippine Sportswriters Association Forum on Tuesday.

“They also had a strong friendly vs Canada. The team is ready.”

That readiness will be put to the test immediately. The Philippines opens its campaign on 21 November against European contender Poland, kicking off what many observers consider one of the tournament’s most competitive groups. The Filipina5 find themselves in Group A, bracketed with Poland, powerhouse Argentina, and rising African force Morocco.

Still, the tournament’s significance extends beyond the court. The country is set to welcome global football leaders, including FIFA president Gianni Infantino, who recently confirmed his attendance for the opening rites.

Gutierrez expressed hope that the moment will also draw support from the nation’s highest office.

“This was just made official that the FIFA President himself Gianni Infantino will be gracing the event. We’re very much hoping that His Excellency, president Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos will also have the time to see and join us for this world-class event,” Guttierez said.

Despite the formidable opposition, confidence is far from scarce inside the Filipina5 camp. The blend of international preparation, home-court energy, and a rising futsal culture has given the team a unique edge.

“We’re ready. One thing is for sure, we belong here. We’re not going out there just to be able to compete. We’re going out there to win.”

After their opener against Poland on the 21st, the Philippines resumes action on 24 November versus Morocco before wrapping up group play on 27 November against Argentina—three matches that could define a new era for Philippine women’s futsal.

In a tournament filled with world-class talent, the Filipina5 are embracing their moment. And for the first time, the world is coming to them.
