Petro Gazz roster reset deepens, five Angels gone amid sweeping PVL shake-up 

Petro Gazz’s championship core continues to unravel, with the Angels confirming the departures of Joy Dacoron and Blove Barbon—another clear signal that the four-time PVL champions are fully immersed in a major offseason reset.

The two exits push Petro Gazz’s growing list of departures to five, following earlier goodbyes to Remy Palma, Chie Saet, and Marian Buitre. Once defined by continuity and stability, the Angels now find themselves navigating one of the most dramatic roster overhauls in recent league memory.

For Dacoron, the move closes a brief but meaningful chapter. The 30-year-old middle blocker joined Petro Gazz for a little over a year and was part of both title runs during the club’s golden 2025 campaign. 

Her stint, however, was far from smooth. Recurring hand injuries repeatedly interrupted her availability, often leaving her sidelined during stretches when the Angels were chasing championships.

Now headed to her seventh PVL team, Dacoron’s career path reflects both resilience and range. Before Petro Gazz, she suited up for F2 Logistics, Cignal, Chery Tiggo, Banko Perlas, and Sta. Lucia, and was once recognized as a premier net defender during the league’s semi-pro era, earning second best middle blocker honors in the 2018 Reinforced Conference with the Perlas Spikers.

Barbon’s departure, meanwhile, ends a two-season run marked by one of the league’s more unconventional defensive arrangements. With Petro Gazz, she operated in a shared-libero system alongside Jellie Tempiatura—handling serve reception duties while her counterpart focused primarily on digs. The setup, rare in the PVL, became a defining feature of the Angels’ floor defense during their title years.

After the Tornadoes folded following a single conference, Barbon found renewed purpose in Petro Gazz, contributing to the back-to-back championship climb that ultimately became her final act in red.

Around the league, the steady stream of Petro Gazz exits is widely viewed as fallout from the club’s looming plan to join forces with Nxled. If finalized, the move would see the Chameleons absorb what remains of the Angels’ championship core—bringing an end to one of the PVL’s most successful eras and cementing this offseason as one of the most turbulent in recent history.
