The Petro Gazz Angels have endured a slow start by their standards in the 2025 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Reinforced Conference, opening their campaign with a 4–3 record that placed them seventh in the standings.

But their climb back into contention continued over the weekend as Petro Gazz secured a commanding win over the Capital1 Solar Spikers, 25–27, 25–13, 25–10, 25–13, on Saturday, November 15, at the Ynares Center in Montalban.

Rookie setter Jules Tolentino emerged as one of the key drivers of the victory, turning in her finest performance yet in the pros. Tolentino delivered a career-best 27 excellent sets and added two points, helping steer the Angels into the quarterfinals.

A natural playmaker, Tolentino has shouldered one of the sport’s most demanding roles. After a rocky start to her professional journey, she has steadily found her rhythm and confidence in orchestrating Petro Gazz’s offense.

“For this game talaga sobrang minindset ko last night na ibibigay ko talaga ‘yung lahat ko for this team. I would say na sobrang naging tricky siya sa start. Yung gel din namin di pa ganun kabuo nung start,” Tolentino said.

“But now na we know na we are heading to a crucial match, talagang doon lumalabas yung power ng bawat isa and yung will namin to do as much as we can sa training. We are really happy na na-showcase namin siya today,” she added.

The rookie admitted that her steady improvement has been fueled by the guidance of her veteran teammates, whose support has pushed her to seize every opportunity on the court.

“Siguro kasi ‘yung mga Ates ko rin nandyan always to guide me. And ‘yung kumpyansa ko, ever since naman naging struggle ko talaga siya. So ngayon, ‘yung moment na binibigay sa’kin, ayoko na siyang bitawan pa. Gusto ko panghawakan pa kung ano ‘yung binibigay ng mga coaches and teammates sa’kin. ‘Yung trust nila, ayokong mawala ‘yun,” Tolentino concluded.

With Tolentino’s continued rise, Petro Gazz aims to sustain its momentum as the conference progresses. The Angels next face the PLDT High Speed Hitters in Preliminary Round 2 on Thursday, November 20, at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
