“Kakausapin ko once it’s official na s’ya na ang import ng Meralco,” Marcial said in a media interaction.

Marcial’s statement signals that while the Bolts may be prepared to move forward with Fernandez, league approval and oversight remain critical components of the process. The PBA has long maintained strict standards when it comes to player conduct, especially for imports who are granted temporary licenses to compete.

Complicating matters further is the involvement of the Philippine Games and Amusements Board (GAB), the government agency tasked with regulating professional sports in the country. GAB chairman Atty. “All our professional athletes are bound by the code of ethics, one of the provisions of which is for them to respect their fellow players. And respect could mean not to inflict physical injuries on your fellow player,” Rivero said during a media interaction.

“If this is proven that there is an infraction, then we can discipline the players and disciplining the players could mean suspension or if the offense is grave enough – revocation of license,” he added.

Rivero’s remarks underscore the seriousness of the situation. Under GAB regulations, professional athletes competing in the Philippines are required to adhere to a strict code of conduct. Any violation deemed severe could jeopardize a player’s license to perform, potentially sidelining Fernandez from PBA competition should the findings warrant disciplinary action.
