The Golden State Warriors have gotten off to a surprisingly shaky start in the 2025-26 NBA season, posting a 13-14 record and sitting eighth in the Western Conference — far below the standards the franchise has set in recent years.
Their struggles continued in Monday’s (December 15, Philippine Standard Time) matchup against the Portland Trail Blazers at the Moda Center, where the Warriors fell 136-131 despite a heroic performance from star guard Stephen Curry.
Curry, who recently returned from a quadriceps injury, has scored 87 points across two games, including a 45-point outing that saw him surpass Michael Jordan for the most 40-point games in NBA history after turning 30. Yet even his brilliance couldn’t prevent Golden State from giving up 40 fourth-quarter points, blowing a 10-point lead in the final 10 minutes.

Warriors head coach Steve Kerr took responsibility for the team’s inconsistent start, acknowledging he has not done his job well this season.
“I’m not doing my job well this year. I thought we did a better job last year putting him in position to attack and create shots for people. We need to get back to that type of control of the game where we are going to him in the half court,” Kerr said in the post-game press conference.
The team’s struggles without Curry are evident in the numbers. During the 737 minutes he has missed, the Warriors have recorded a 107.1 offensive rating, lower than the Indiana Pacers, who have the league’s worst offense at 108.2. Last season, Golden State was able to better weather Curry’s absences thanks to the presence of Jimmy Butler, who joined the team in February.
Kerr’s frequent lineup rotations have also drawn criticism. The coach has started 15 different lineups in 27 games so far this season, continuing a trend from last year when he used 38 different starting lineups — the second most in the NBA and the most in his 12-year tenure.
Finding a stable rotation remains a challenge, and all eyes will be on Kerr as the Warriors look to turn their fortunes around in their upcoming matchup against the Phoenix Suns on Friday, December 19 (Philippine Standard Time).
