At 42 years old, Filipino boxing legend Nonito Donaire still wants to face the toughest challenges boxing has to offer.
Donaire continues his pursuit for a next opponent with multiple names being thrown out, such as World Boxing Association (WBA) champion Seiya Tsutsumi and fellow former world champion Roman Gonzalez.
Another fight he’s looking out for is a trilogy bout against Undisputed Super Bantamweight world champion and rival Naoya Inoue.
Donaire said he still looks for the toughest fights and still wants to be challenged inside the boxing ring.
“Ako, I love a good fight,” Donaire said. “We’ve called out Chocolatito (Gonzalez) and ayaw nila eh. But with Inoue, I want that challenge.”
“This is why nagbo-boxing pa rin ako — because I want to be challenged. I still want to see the best of me still. I want to be challenged to that point where I’m training harder than ever,” he added.

Donaire first fought Inoue in 2019 in one of the greatest fights of the decade, and again in 2022.
The Filipino Flash lost in both fights but was regarded as one of the unbeaten Inoue’s toughest fights to date.
For Donaire, despite capturing multiple world championships in different divisions, his decision to continue boxing is entirely personal, as he still wants to prove to himself that he can be one of boxing’s best.
“I’m doing it for me. I want to prove it to myself,” he said.
