The NLEX Road Warriors are off to an encouraging start in the 2026 Philippine Basketball Association Commissioner’s Cup, compiling a 3–1 record to position themselves firmly in the top half of the standings. With early momentum on their side, the Road Warriors are beginning to establish themselves as a competitive force in the mid-season conference.

Their latest statement win came at the expense of perennial contenders Barangay Ginebra San Miguel, as NLEX pulled off a hard-fought 118–113 victory at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on Friday, March 27. The result not only boosted their record but also underscored the team’s growing confidence against elite opposition.

Leading the charge was star guard Robert Bolick, who once again delivered in crunch time. The 30-year-old floor general poured in 32 points on an efficient 11-of-19 shooting clip, orchestrating the offense while stepping up when it mattered most. His biggest moment came with 46.1 seconds remaining, when he drained a clutch three-pointer that effectively sealed the win for NLEX.

The Road Warriors’ victory was made even more impressive by the manner in which it was achieved. Trailing by as many as 13 points earlier in the contest, NLEX mounted a determined comeback, fueled by defensive stops and timely shot-making. For Bolick, the win was a reflection of the team’s resilience and preparation.

“Character win ito. Yun ‘yung mga tinatrabaho ko araw-araw sa practice. Pagdating sa sitwasyon na ganun, kumpiyansa lang at tiwala sa tinrabaho ko from high school, college, at hanggang pro. Kapag nag-mintis ‘yun, ako ang sisihin, ganun naman ang basketball. Willing naman ako tanggapin ‘yun,” Bolick said in the postmatch press conference.

Despite his standout stat line and late-game heroics, Bolick remained critical of his overall performance, pointing to his five turnovers as an area of concern. His candid self-assessment highlights the standards he sets for himself as the team’s primary playmaker.

“Sama nga ng laro ko eh. Ako nga ‘yung -10, may mga turnover sa dulo. Ang ganda lang ng laban namin nitong back-to-back games. Nasulot kami ng TNT, eto lumamang na naman sila, panay turnover ako, kala mo dere-derecho na pero lumaban kami at nakuha pa namin ang panalo,” he added.

Bolick’s leadership and production have been instrumental in NLEX’s early success, particularly in tightly contested matchups where composure and decision-making are crucial. His ability to bounce back from mistakes and still deliver in key moments has been a defining trait for the Road Warriors this conference.

In recognition of his performances, Bolick was named PBA Player of the Week for the Commissioner’s Cup (March 25–29), an award determined by journalists covering the league across various platforms. He edged out a competitive field that included Ricci Rivero of the Phoenix Fuel Masters, Felix Lemetti of the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters, and Zavier Lucero of the Magnolia Hotshots.

As the Commissioner’s Cup progresses, the Road Warriors will look to build on their strong start and maintain their position in the standings. With Bolick leading the way and the team showing signs of grit and cohesion, NLEX appears poised to be a serious contender capable of challenging the league’s traditional powerhouses.
