NBA Western Conference Finals: Shai Gilgeous-Alexander powers Thunder to a Game 4 win over Timberwolves

The Oklahoma City Thunder continued their winning run this season, taking Game 4 of the NBA Western Conference Finals with a 128–126 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves at the Target Center on Tuesday, May 27 (Philippine Standard Time).

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander once again showed why he won the NBA Most Valuable Player (MVP) award, scoring a playoff career-high 40 points, along with eight rebounds and 10 assists, to lead the Thunder to a 3–1 series lead. He received solid support from Jalen Williams, who finished with 34 points, three rebounds, and five assists. In fact, the duo combined for 36 points by halftime.

The Thunder’s defense was on point during the game, keeping Timberwolves’ star Anthony Edwards quiet. OKC’s designated stopper, Luguentz Dort, led the way, limiting Edwards to just two shot attempts and four points before halftime. Edwards eventually recorded only 15 points and six assists, attempting just 12 field goals. Forward Julius Randle had a poor game by his standards, managing just five points on 1-of-7 shooting from the field.

The Thunder looked like likely winners from the start, setting the pace early by forcing seven turnovers en route to a 37–30 lead. However, what kept Minnesota in the game were the efforts of Jaden McDaniels, Nickeil Alexander-Walker, and Donte DiVincenzo, all of whom scored in double digits.

OKC will have a chance to seal their spot in the NBA Finals when the two teams clash in Game 5 on Thursday, May 29, at the Paycom Center.
