NBA Trade Report: Dennis Schröder lands with Sacramento Kings on three-year deal

Veteran point guard Dennis Schröder has reportedly agreed to a three-year, $45 million deal with the Sacramento Kings, as reported by ESPN’s Shams Charania.

The signing marks a significant move for the Kings as they look to solidify their backcourt after trading away All-Star De’Aaron Fox earlier in the year.

The agreement, which was finalized on Tuesday, July 1st, will see Schröder join his tenth NBA team in his 13th season. The deal is reportedly fully guaranteed for the first two years, with a partial guarantee on the third season.

Schröder, who turns 32 in September, is expected to step into a prominent role for the Kings, providing much-needed speed, ball-handling, and point-of-attack defense. His addition addresses a key need for Sacramento, which had been exploring various options at the point guard position in free agency, including Russell Westbrook and Tyus Jones.

The German international had a busy 2024-25 season, playing for three different teams. He started with the Brooklyn Nets, was traded to the Golden State Warriors in December, and then moved to the Detroit Pistons before the February trade deadline.

Across 75 games (48 starts), he averaged 13.1 points, 5.4 assists, and 2.6 rebounds. He also had a strong showing in the playoffs with the Pistons, averaging 12.5 points and 3.7 assists in their first-round series.

The Kings’ decision to sign Schröder highlights their intent to compete for a playoff spot in the upcoming season. While there were earlier rumors about a potential sign-and-trade involving Malik Monk and the Detroit Pistons, reports now suggest the deal is a direct free-agent signing, likely utilizing the non-taxpayer mid-level exception.

This move marks the first major free-agent acquisition under the Kings’ new front office, led by general manager Scott Perry.

As free agency continues, the Kings will look to further shape their roster around Schröder and their existing core.
