National Basketball Association (NBA) superstar Kevin Durant is known for investing in businesses outside of basketball and has now invested in French football (soccer) club Paris Saint-Germain (PSG).

PSG management recently confirmed that Durant has purchased a minority stake in the team, releasing a statement confirming that Qatar Sports Investments (QSI), PSG’s majority shareholder, has signed an investment and strategic partnership agreement with the NBA star.

“QSI is pleased to welcome Kevin Durant as a direct shareholder in Paris Saint-Germain and strategic partner of our group. We continually seek to elevate the club and our broader portfolio through high-impact partnerships that bring strategic value, innovation, and global perspective. Together with Kevin, we look forward to developing ambitious initiatives that will drive the continued global growth of Paris Saint-Germain and QSI,” read PSG’s official statement.

The statement further added that Durant will play a key role in PSG’s multi-sport expansion strategy, including potential plans in basketball. He will support the club’s diversification and growth initiatives, with a particular focus on expanding PSG’s presence in the United States.

“It is an honor to partner with QSI and be a shareholder in Paris Saint-Germain—a club and city that is deeply close to my heart. This club has big plans, and I look forward to being part of the next phase of growth and exploring new investment opportunities with QSI,” Durant said of the partnership.

PSG is not the first football club Durant has invested in. The 36-year-old purchased a 5 percent stake in Major League Soccer’s Philadelphia Union back in 2020. He is also not the only NBA superstar to invest in a European football club—basketball icon LeBron James is a minority owner of Premier League side Liverpool.

Through his multimedia company Boardroom Sports, Durant also invested in Just Women’s Sports in 2021—an American media platform dedicated to women’s sports—and joined LeBron James, Tom Brady, and Drew Brees in October 2022 as an investor in a professional pickleball team.
