NBA Free Agency Rumors: Jonathan Kuminga set to accept Golden State’s qualifying offer

The long standoff between forward Jonathan Kuminga and the Golden State Warriors may be coming to a halt as training camp nears in four weeks.

According to NBA insider Brett Siegel, Kuminga is prepared to return to the Warriors this season and accept his one-year, $7.9 million qualifying offer with eyes set on the 2026 free agency.

“If the Warriors were to slightly alter this two-year proposal, giving some leverage back to Kuminga in the form of a player option or guaranteed money, then perhaps a compromise could be reached,” Siegel reported.

“There haven’t been any indications suggesting that the Warriors are thinking of changing their offer, and unless they do so over the course of the next week, Kuminga is prepared to end talks and accept his qualifying offer, league sources said,” he added.

Over the past weeks, both parties went back and forth with Kuminga reportedly feeling undervalued by the franchise that drafted him.

Golden State offered the no. 7 pick a team-friendly two-year deal for roughly around $45 million, but it was declined, according to Shams Charania.

Kuminga believes he can be one of the team’s top stars alongside 37-year-old Steph Curry and Jimmy Butler. Reports say he wanted a $30 million deal for four years, but the Warriors didn’t budge.

With the qualifying offer, Kuminga will bet on himself to have a career year in order to gain interest in the 2026 free agency that will potentially feature LeBron James and Kevin Durant.

Kuminga averaged 15.3 points, 2.2 assists, and 4.6 rebounds last year.
