Mark “Mugen” Striegl is not just a fighter; he is a testament to the global reach of Filipino combat sports. Striegl’s professional journey, which began in 2009, was launched with an incredible 12-0 undefeated streak that established him as a premier talent in the Asia-Pacific circuit.

Breaking the Ultimate Barrier

He reached a career peak in the Philippines-based Universal Reality Combat Championship (URCC), where he captured the URCC Featherweight Championship in 2018 by defeating Do Gyeom Lee. He successfully defended the title the following year in a bout that ultimately resulted in a No-Contest.

Striegl also tested his mettle in Asia’s largest promotion, ONE Championship, securing a notable first-round submission victory over Casey Suire and engaging in tough contests against perennial contenders like Reece McLaren.His early success was cemented through major victories across other key promotions, including Pacific Xtreme Combat (PXC), Legend Fighting Championship, and Malaysian Invasion MMA (MIMMA).

In 2020, Striegl achieved the ultimate goal of many MMA fighters after signing with the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). His two fights were hard-fought, facing two of the division’s toughest names, Said Nurmagomedov and Chas Skelly. Though the results did not go his way, the achievement of fighting on the world’s biggest stage solidified his status as one of the Philippines’ most accomplished international fighters.

Striegl, who was raised in Tokyo before moving to California and eventually settling in Baguio City. His decision to base his training in the high-altitude region, a path famously trodden by boxing legend Manny Pacquiao, underscores his true passion for being a Filipino despite his mixed heritage.

Beyond the cage, Striegl has proudly carried the Philippine flag in an entirely different discipline: Sambo. In 2019, he represented the nation and won a Gold Medal in Combat Sambo at the Southeast Asian (SEA) Games, showcasing an athletic versatility rarely seen in top-tier MMA fighters.

The Filipino-American continues to showcase his physical prowess, recently joining Team Philippines in the reality competition series Physical: Asia, where many Filipinos come to know him as one of the pillars for Team Philippines.
