American boxing icon Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Filipino legend Manny Pacquiao are widely regarded as two of the greatest fighters in boxing history, celebrated for their remarkable achievements inside the ring.

After years of anticipation, the two finally faced off in 2015 in what was billed as the “Battle of the Century” at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. The bout shattered revenue records, generating $410 million in the United States alone and becoming the highest-grossing pay-per-view (PPV) event in boxing history.

Mayweather won by unanimous decision, with scores of 116-112, 116-112, and 118-110, solidifying his legacy as one of the sport’s all-time greats. He retired from professional boxing in August 2017 but has since participated in a series of lucrative exhibition fights.

Pacquiao, now 46, recently made headlines by returning to the ring to face World Boxing Council (WBC) welterweight champion Mario Barrios. The Filipino great has also fueled speculation of a potential rematch with Mayweather, revealing that talks are currently underway.

“Right now, we have a lot of negotiations about my next fight — there is a possible rematch with Floyd Mayweather,” Pacquiao said during a press conference for Thrilla in Manila 2 on October 29. “There are many ongoing negotiations, so it’s hard to plan which fight to announce. I’m waiting for the final decision.”

“I would love to have another fight, a rematch with Floyd Mayweather. I hope that in the negotiations, we can understand each other and make it happen. After Thrilla in Manila 2, we will give feedback about the talks and make an announcement,” he added.

In addition to Mayweather, Pacquiao has also been linked to potential bouts against World Boxing Association (WBA) champion Rolly Romero and two-time Olympic gold medalist and former world champion Vasyl Lomachenko of Ukraine.

Outside the ring, Pacquiao continues to make an impact on the sport. He was recently named vice president of the International Boxing Association (IBA), where he will work alongside president Umar Kremlev to promote grassroots boxing worldwide and support the development of amateur fighters preparing for the professional stage.
