The Los Angeles Lakers have started the 2025–26 NBA season in spectacular fashion, posting a 13-4 record to sit second in the Western Conference standings.
The team carried that momentum into the NBA Cup, downing hometown rivals the Los Angeles Clippers 135-118 at home on Wednesday, November 26 (Philippine Standard Time).
Once again, Luka Doncic led the charge, finishing with 43 points, nine rebounds, and 13 assists on 14-of-28 shooting, helping the Lakers improve to a 3-0 record and secure the top spot in West Group B.

However, despite the win, Doncic voiced his frustration over the newly introduced court at Crypto.com Arena, describing it as “dangerous” after several players, including himself, slipped on the surface.
“It’s just slippery. It’s dangerous. I slipped. I slipped a lot of times, and you could see a lot of players slipped. And that’s dangerous, man,” the Slovenian star said after the game.
Lakers head coach JJ Redick offered context for the slippery conditions, attributing it to condensation left over from the L.A. Kings playing at the arena the night before.
“Yeah, I mean we will look at it. I noticed that guys were slipping, but I also noticed that guys were falling prior to that. So, I don’t know, sometimes courts just don’t dry well when there’s condensation on it. I wish I had the White Goodman quote about sweating right now from ‘Dodgeball,’ but I don’t. Otherwise, I would use it, but yeah, we will take a look at it,” Redick said.
The victory not only solidifies the Lakers’ lead in West Group B but also ensures their qualification for the knockout round of the NBA Cup. They will close out the group stage against the Dallas Mavericks at home on Saturday, November 29 (Philippine Standard Time).
